Getting to the Vettakollen trailhead
To get to the trailhead, take metro 1 and get off at Vettakollen station. When you get off the metro, walk up the hill past the pizza place until you see signs for Vettakollen.
The trail can also be found in Google Maps if you search for Vettakollen Viewpoint, or in AllTrails here.
Hiking to Vettakollen viewpoint
The path from the metro to the Vettakollen viewpoint is about 1.7 km long (or, 3.3 km out and back). It is about a 30-minute hike each way to the viewpoint. The way is marked by trail signs like this one:

This hike is up and down a hill and can be wet (both slippery and muddy) or icy depending on the time of year, so keep this in mind when choosing your footwear. To avoid snow and ice, it is best to do this trail from April through November. Overall, the hike is fairly easy, even with the incline, and it is suitable for children.
This is a popular trail that tends to see a lot of traffic on weekends, so if you can, it’s good to try to go during the week to avoid the crowds.
The view at the top!
Once you’ve reached the top of Vettakollen peak, take some time to enjoy the expansive views of Oslo and Oslo Fjord!

It is a great idea to bring snacks or even a thermos of hot drinks for when you get to the top so you can relax for a bit. Also, don’t forget your camera!
Things to keep in mind
Remember the Leave No Trace principles while on this hike. Stay on the established trail, try to walk on hard surfaces (like rocks) where you can on your way up to the viewpoint, and always remember to pack out anything you bring with you.
