How to Get from Gardemoen Airport (OSL) to Oslo City Center (Updated for 2024!)

This post lists the most popular ways to get from Gardemoen Airport (OSL) to Oslo City Center so that you can compare them and decide what works best for you!

The main options are train, bus, or taxi, and each is described in more detail below.

How to get from Gardemoen Airport (OSL) to Oslo City Center

Local train

The local train is the cheapest option for travel between Oslo Gardemoen and Oslo city. You can get off at either the National Theater (Nationaltheatret) or city center (Jernbanetorget) stops. The local train departs about every 30 minutes during the day.

The train costs about 124 NOK for an adult ticket or 60 NOK for a children’s ticket, and you need a ticket that allows you to travel between Zone 1 and Zone 4N.

You can buy tickets for this train using the Ruter app (which I suggest downloading before you travel!). This is the same app that you use to access public transportation within Oslo.

Express train: Flytoget

In most cases, I do not suggest taking the Flytoget express train. It is twice as expensive as the local train and not much faster. However, it does run more often than the local train, which you might want to take into consideration. It is also great for families since children under 16 can take this train for free (without a ticket) if accompanied by someone over 16.

As of 2024, Flytoget tickets cost 240 NOK for adults and 120 NOK for students with a valid ID and those under 21 years of age.

The Flytoget express train departs every 10 minutes, and it takes 20 minutes to travel between Oslo Gardemoen and downtown Oslo.

Bus: Flybussen

One advantage of the Flybussen is that there are many more stops to choose from than either of the trains running between Oslo and the airport. You can ask the bus drivers which bus will take you to where you want to go, and then tell your bus driver which stop you want to get off at. Another advantage of the Flybussen bus is that it runs later than the local train, and may be your only option (besides a taxi) late at night.

The bus takes a little over an hour to go between the airport and Oslo center. Departure times vary depending on which stop you want to get off at.

As of 2024, Flybussen tickets cost 239 NOK for adults and 145 NOK for students under the age of 30.

Taxi

Keep in mind that taxis are very expensive in Norway. I have not personally taken a taxi from Oslo airport to the city center, but the prices I’ve seen range from around 600 to 1,100 NOK. The convenience may be worth it for you, but in general, Oslo has great public transportation options that I highly suggest taking advantage of!

My suggestion

In most cases, the local train is probably the best way to travel between Oslo Airport and Oslo city center. It is the cheapest option and often either the fastest option or not significantly slower than a more expensive option.

It might not be possible to use the local train if you need to travel late at night. In this case, the Flybussen is usually still running and is a good alternative.

Finally, for families, it might be cheapest to take the Flytoget express train. This is because kids under the age of 16 can take this train for free if they are accompanied by a ticketed adult.
